Something To Consider
Even if you don't feel comfortable about revealing your own sexuality, it's always a good idea to make it clear to everyone that you're a strong supporter of equality and diversity. Always tell people that you hate all forms of discrimation including homophobia. That way, if one your friends is also gay, they will feel much more comfortable about coming out to you.
Did You Know?
York Region has an LGBT support line that is staffed by professionally trained counsellors. You can call this support line on 1-888-YORKLGBT any time you feel that you could use some help or advice. Details of this and many other free support services can be found in the Services section of this website.
Coming Out
Introduction
This aim of this guide isn't to advise you whether or not you should disclose your sexuality. It won't tell you when you should do this or to who. Only you are familiar with the people that are important in your life, so only you can make those decisions. This guide will however help you think about all the things that need to be taken into account in your decision-making process.
The guide is divided into a number of sections, each of which can be selected from the menu bar at the top of every page.
Your Feedback
Please contact us if you have any comments or suggestions on ways that this guide might be improved. We would also be pleased to receive any coming out stories so that we can learn about individual experiences. Again, this will enable us to review and improve this guide. All materials submitted to us will be treated in the strictest confidence. Nothing will not be published without your express permission.
